Liberation Email and Hub for Teams mailboxes use the same mail server and the same login, so these steps work whether your mailbox is on a Hub for Teams plan or a standalone Liberation Email (Email Pro) plan.
This guide adds your Liberation Email/Hub mailbox as another account inside the Gmail app, so you can read and send it from Gmail alongside your other addresses. This is different from migrating your mail from Gmail to Liberation Email, which moves your data instead of just connecting an app.
Before you start
You'll need:
- Your full email address (e.g.
[email protected]) - Your mailbox password (your Hub for Teams password, or your Email Pro mailbox password)
- The Gmail app installed on your iPhone/iPad or Android phone
Tip: If you're not sure your password still works, sign in first at hubforteams.com (Hub plans) or mail.liberation.email (Email Pro plans) to confirm it before setting up the app.
Add the account in the Gmail app
- Open the Gmail app. Tap your profile picture or initials in the top right, then Add another account.
- On the list of account types, tap Other (on Android) or the option for a non-Google/non-Outlook address (on iPhone/iPad, Gmail shows a similar "Other" entry).
- Type your full email address and tap Next.
- Choose Personal (IMAP) when asked what type of account this is.
- Enter your mailbox password and tap Next.
- On the Incoming server settings screen, confirm or enter:
- Username: your full email address
- Password: your mailbox password
- Server:
mail.liberation.email - Port: 993
- Security type: SSL/TLS
- On the Outgoing server settings screen, confirm or enter:
- Server:
mail.liberation.email - Port: 465 (use 587 if you're asked for a STARTTLS port instead)
- Security type: SSL/TLS (or STARTTLS if using port 587)
- Make sure "Require sign-in" is turned on, with the same username and password as above
- Server:
- Gmail will verify the settings, then let you name the account and finish adding it.
| Incoming server (IMAP) | Outgoing server (SMTP) | |
|---|---|---|
| Port | 993 | 465 |
| Security type | SSL/TLS | SSL/TLS |
If port 993/465 don't connect (some networks block them), use IMAP port 143 and SMTP port 587 instead, both with security type set to STARTTLS.
Troubleshooting
- Gmail says it can't verify your username or password: double-check you chose Personal (IMAP) rather than Exchange, and that the server is exactly
mail.liberation.emailon both the incoming and outgoing screens. - You can receive mail but can't send: confirm "Require sign-in" is turned on for the outgoing server, using your full email address and current password.
- Keeps asking for your password: your password was likely changed elsewhere (Hub or webmail). Remove the account from Settings and add it again with the current password.
- Still not working: confirm the password by signing in on the web — Hub plans at hubforteams.com, Email Pro plans at mail.liberation.email. If that also fails, reset your password (see How to log in to Liberation Email / Hub for Teams and reset your password).
Calendar and contacts sync separately from mail and aren't covered by these steps — see How to sync your Hub calendar and contacts to your phone, Outlook or Thunderbird.
