Liberation Email and Hub for Teams mailboxes use the same mail server and the same login, so these steps work whether your mailbox is on a Hub for Teams plan or a standalone Liberation Email (Email Pro) plan.
This guide covers Outlook for Mac. If you're on Windows, see How to set up Liberation Email on your phone or computer (IMAP/SMTP settings) or the Outlook 2016/2019/2021/new Outlook guides instead.
Before you start
You'll need:
- Your full email address (e.g.
[email protected]) - Your mailbox password (your Hub for Teams password, or your Email Pro mailbox password)
- Outlook for Mac already installed and open
Tip: If you're not sure your password still works, sign in first at hubforteams.com (Hub plans) or mail.liberation.email (Email Pro plans) to confirm it before setting up Outlook.
Add the account in Outlook for Mac
- Open Outlook. Go to Outlook > Settings… (or Tools > Accounts, depending on your version).
- Click the + button in the lower-left corner and choose New Account.
- Type your full email address and click Continue.
- Outlook will try to detect the account type automatically. If it offers to sign you in with Microsoft 365/Exchange, decline/cancel that and look for an option to enter your account details manually or choose IMAP/POP as the account type. (Wording varies by Outlook version — look for "Not your account type?" or a manual-setup link.)
- Choose IMAP and fill in:
- Incoming server:
mail.liberation.email, Port 993, Use SSL checked - Outgoing server:
mail.liberation.email, Port 465, Use SSL checked - User name: your full email address
- Password: your mailbox password
- Incoming server:
- Click Add Account. Outlook will verify the settings and add the mailbox.
- Click Done.
| Incoming server (IMAP) | Outgoing server (SMTP) | |
|---|---|---|
| Port | 993 | 465 |
| Encryption | SSL | SSL |
If port 993/465 don't connect (some networks block them), edit the account under Outlook > Settings > Accounts and switch to IMAP port 143 and SMTP port 587, with Use TLS instead of SSL.
Troubleshooting
- Outlook keeps asking for your password: your password was likely changed elsewhere (Hub or webmail). Go to Outlook > Settings > Accounts, select the account, and re-enter the current password.
- You can receive mail but can't send: open the account's advanced settings and confirm the outgoing server is set to use the same username and password as the incoming server.
- Still not working: confirm the password by signing in on the web — Hub plans at hubforteams.com, Email Pro plans at mail.liberation.email. If that also fails, reset your password (see How to log in to Liberation Email / Hub for Teams and reset your password).
Calendar and contacts sync separately from mail and aren't covered by these steps — see How to sync your Hub calendar and contacts to your phone, Outlook or Thunderbird.
