Liberation Email and Hub for Teams mailboxes use the same mail server and the same login, so these steps work whether your mailbox is on a Hub for Teams plan or a standalone Liberation Email (Email Pro) plan.
This guide covers the classic, ribbon-style Outlook 2019/2021 (and classic Outlook for Microsoft 365) on Windows. The setup screens are slightly different from Outlook 2016 and from the newer streamlined Outlook — if you have one of those, see How to set up Liberation Email on your phone or computer (IMAP/SMTP settings) or the 2016/new Outlook guides instead.
Before you start
You'll need:
- Your full email address (e.g.
[email protected]) - Your mailbox password (your Hub for Teams password, or your Email Pro mailbox password)
- Outlook 2019 or 2021 already installed and open
Tip: If you're not sure your password still works, sign in first at hubforteams.com (Hub plans) or mail.liberation.email (Email Pro plans) to confirm it before setting up Outlook.
Add the account in Outlook 2019/2021
- Open Outlook. Go to File > Add Account.
- On the "Add Account" screen, type your full email address, then click the Advanced options arrow/link and check "Let me set up my account manually". Click Connect.
- On the "Advanced Setup" screen, choose IMAP.
- On the Incoming mail screen:
- Server:
mail.liberation.email, Port 993 - Encryption method: SSL/TLS
- Server:
- On the Outgoing mail (SMTP) screen:
- Server:
mail.liberation.email, Port 465 - Encryption method: SSL/TLS
- Server:
- Enter your mailbox password when prompted, and check Remember my credentials. Click Connect.
- Outlook will test the connection. Click Done once it reports success.
| Incoming server (IMAP) | Outgoing server (SMTP) | |
|---|---|---|
| Port | 993 | 465 |
| Encryption | SSL/TLS | SSL/TLS |
If port 993/465 don't connect (some networks block them), go back into Account Settings > Change > More Settings > Advanced and switch to IMAP port 143 and SMTP port 587, both set to STARTTLS/TLS encryption.
Missing folders after setup
Outlook sometimes only displays "subscribed" IMAP folders, so Sent, Drafts or other folders may not show up right away:
- Right-click your account name in the folder pane and choose IMAP Folders…
- Click Query, select the folders you want, and click Subscribe.
- Uncheck "When displaying hierarchy in Outlook, show only subscribed folders."
- Click OK.
Troubleshooting
- Outlook keeps asking for your password: your password was likely changed elsewhere (Hub or webmail). Update it under File > Account Settings > Account Settings, select the account, click Change, and re-enter the current password.
- You can receive mail but can't send: double check the outgoing server is set to use the same username and password as the incoming server, under More Settings > Outgoing Server.
- Still not working: confirm the password by signing in on the web — Hub plans at hubforteams.com, Email Pro plans at mail.liberation.email. If that also fails, reset your password (see How to log in to Liberation Email / Hub for Teams and reset your password).
Calendar and contacts sync separately from mail and aren't covered by these steps — see How to sync your Hub calendar and contacts to your phone, Outlook or Thunderbird.
Still need help?
Tell us you're using Outlook 2019 or 2021, and send a screenshot of any error message. Open a support ticket and include those details so we can resolve it on the first reply.
