Liberation Email and Hub for Teams mailboxes use the same mail server and the same login, so these steps work whether your mailbox is on a Hub for Teams plan or a standalone Liberation Email (Email Pro) plan.
This guide covers the new Outlook for Windows (the streamlined, Microsoft 365-style Outlook that ships by default on Windows 11 and newer Microsoft 365 installs). If your Outlook still has the classic ribbon interface, see How to set up Liberation Email on your phone or computer (IMAP/SMTP settings) or the classic Outlook 2019/2021 guide instead.
Before you start
You'll need:
- Your full email address (e.g.
[email protected]) - Your mailbox password (your Hub for Teams password, or your Email Pro mailbox password)
- The new Outlook for Windows already installed and open
Tip: If you're not sure your password still works, sign in first at hubforteams.com (Hub plans) or mail.liberation.email (Email Pro plans) to confirm it before setting up Outlook.
Add the account in the new Outlook
- Open Outlook. Click your profile icon (or the gear/Settings icon) in the top right, then Add account. If this is the very first account, Outlook may show this screen automatically on first launch.
- Type your full email address and click Continue.
- Outlook will try to auto-detect your account type and will usually fail or offer the wrong type for a Liberation Email/Hub mailbox — that's expected. Look for Advanced options (it may be a small link or dropdown under the email field) and choose it, then turn on "Let me set up my account manually" before continuing.
- From the account type list, choose IMAP.
- Fill in the IMAP settings:
- Incoming mail server:
mail.liberation.email, Port 993, Encryption SSL/TLS - Username: your full email address
- Password: your mailbox password
- Incoming mail server:
- On the SMTP (outgoing) screen:
- Outgoing mail server:
mail.liberation.email, Port 465, Encryption SSL/TLS - Check My outgoing server requires authentication and use the same username and password as above
- Outgoing mail server:
- Click Sign in / Connect. Outlook will test the connection and then show "Account successfully added."
- Click Done.
| Incoming server (IMAP) | Outgoing server (SMTP) | |
|---|---|---|
| Port | 993 | 465 |
| Encryption | SSL/TLS | SSL/TLS |
If port 993/465 don't connect (some networks block them), use IMAP port 143 and SMTP port 587 instead, both set to STARTTLS/TLS encryption.
Troubleshooting
- Outlook won't let you past the automatic setup screen: make sure you selected Advanced options > Let me set up my account manually before Outlook tries to connect — without it, Outlook will keep trying (and failing) to auto-configure the account.
- Outlook keeps asking for your password: your password was likely changed elsewhere (Hub or webmail). Go to account settings, select the account, and re-enter the current password.
- You can receive mail but can't send: double-check "My outgoing server requires authentication" is turned on and using your full email address and password.
- Still not working: confirm the password by signing in on the web — Hub plans at hubforteams.com, Email Pro plans at mail.liberation.email. If that also fails, reset your password (see How to log in to Liberation Email / Hub for Teams and reset your password).
Calendar and contacts sync separately from mail and aren't covered by these steps — see How to sync your Hub calendar and contacts to your phone, Outlook or Thunderbird.
