Summary: WHMCS is not included with Liberation reseller hosting, so you're free to bill your clients however you like, and our Client Protection Promise means we never market to or bill your clients.
You own the client relationship
Your clients are your customers. You set the prices, send the invoices, and collect payment. Liberation bills only you, for your reseller plan.
Your billing options
Option 1: Use your own WHMCS license
WHMCS isn't included in your plan, but you can buy your own license and connect it to your reseller VPS. WHMCS can create, suspend, and terminate cPanel accounts automatically when clients order, miss payments, or cancel.
- Buy a WHMCS license and install WHMCS by following WHMCS's own instructions.
- In WHM, create an API token under Development » Manage API Tokens. Give it a clear name, such as "WHMCS."
- In WHMCS, add your server using the cPanel server module. Enter your server's hostname, the username
root, and the API token. - Create products in WHMCS that match the packages in WHM » Packages.
For help with WHMCS itself, contact WHMCS support. If WHMCS can't connect to your server, open a ticket with us and we'll check the server side.
Option 2: Other billing software
Other hosting billing platforms work too, as long as they can connect to WHM through the API. You can use the same API token approach.
Option 3: Invoice manually
Many agencies and web designers bundle hosting into a monthly care plan or retainer. They bill it through their usual accounting or invoicing tool and create accounts by hand in WHM. With a few dozen clients or fewer, this is often the simplest approach.
Domains
Your Liberation plan includes a domain reseller account, so you can offer domain registration alongside hosting. To learn how to set it up or connect it to your billing tools, open a ticket.
How the Client Protection Promise works
Resellers work hard to win clients, and our Reseller Client Protection Policy is designed to protect those relationships.
- We contact you, not your client. If there's an issue with one of your clients' sites, we reach out to you.
- 15 days' notice. We give you 15 days' notice before taking action on a client site. The exceptions are when the law, a court order, an active security threat, or resource abuse requires faster action.
- Limited enforcement. We take enforcement action only for unlawful use or non-payment.
- No poaching. We never market to your clients or bill them.
- First right to the work. If one of your clients contacts Liberation directly, we notify you and give you first right to do the work.
- Predictable pricing. Renewal increases on your plan are capped at 5%, and we tell you in advance.
The capped renewal increase makes it easier to set your own prices. You can quote clients multi-year pricing knowing your costs won't jump.
Tips for billing clients
- Price for value, not disk space. Clients pay for reliability, security, backups, and your support.
- Spell out what's included: backups (included on Studio and higher), malware protection with Imunify360, SSL certificates through AutoSSL, and how clients reach you for support.
- Keep business email separate. We recommend Liberation Email / Hub for Teams for client email rather than cPanel mailboxes.
- Suspend before you terminate. If a client stops paying, suspend the account in WHM before deleting anything, and keep a backup. Suspended accounts still count toward your account limit.
Still stuck? Open a ticket
Our U.S.-based support team is available 24/7. Open a support ticket from the Liberation Client Area and include a description of how you're billing clients today and what you'd like to set up. Tickets are private, so they are the safe place to share server details. Never post passwords in public forums or chats.
