Summary: This article explains the daily backups included on Studio and higher plans (kept for 7 days), the CodeGuard option for Launch, how to request a restore, and how to keep your own off-server copies.

What's included on each plan

PlanIncluded backupsRetention
LaunchNone. Add CodeGuard.Depends on your CodeGuard plan
StudioDaily, automated7 days
AgencyDaily, automated7 days
Agency PlusDaily, automated7 days
ScaleDaily, automated7 days

Seven-day retention means you can restore from any of the last seven daily backups. If a problem goes unnoticed for more than a week, the clean copy may no longer exist. That's one reason we recommend keeping your own off-server copies too.

How to request a restore (Studio and higher)

  1. Open a support ticket.
  2. Include:
    • The cPanel username and domain
    • What to restore: the whole account, only website files, one folder or file (give the path), or one database (give its name)
    • Which date to restore from, for example "the most recent backup from before Tuesday morning"
    • Whether to overwrite the current files or restore to a separate folder so you can compare first
  3. We'll confirm the details and let you know when the restore is complete.

Tip: If the site was hacked, tell us in the ticket. Restoring files won't fix the hole that let the attacker in, so plan to update plugins and change passwords right after the restore. See Security with Imunify360.

Launch plan: adding CodeGuard

Launch doesn't include server backups. CodeGuard is an add-on that automatically backs up your websites and databases off-server and lets you restore them yourself. Visit the CodeGuard page to learn more or order, or open a ticket with questions.

Keep your own off-server copies

Our backups protect against accidents and server problems. A second copy that you control adds another layer of protection, and it's a good selling point for your clients too. Here are some options:

  • Full account backups from cPanel: In any client's cPanel, go to Files » Backup and download a full account backup. Store it somewhere safe, such as your own cloud storage.
  • WHM remote backups: WHM's Backup » Backup Configuration can send backups to remote destinations such as SFTP servers or S3-compatible storage. On Studio and higher, open a ticket before you change these settings so we can make sure your changes don't conflict with your included daily backups or fill your disk.
  • Application-level backups: Many CMS platforms, WordPress included, offer backup plugins that send copies to external storage.

Whichever option you use, keep backups off the server itself. If a backup sits on the same disk it protects, you can lose both at once.

Test your restores

A backup is only useful if it restores. A few times a year, restore a copy of a test site to confirm your process works.

Common questions

Can my clients request restores directly?

We work with you, the reseller, not your clients. Your clients should come to you, and you open the ticket with us.

Can I get backups older than 7 days?

Included backups are kept for 7 days. For longer history, keep your own off-server copies or use CodeGuard.

Still stuck? Open a ticket

Our U.S.-based support team is available 24/7. Open a support ticket from the Liberation Client Area and include the cPanel username, the domain, and the date you need to restore from. Tickets are private, so they are the safe place to share server details. Never post passwords in public forums or chats.
