A TXT record holds a piece of text on your domain. Other services read it to confirm you own the domain or to check your email security settings. Common uses:
- Proving you own the domain, for example when adding it to your Hub, Google Search Console, Microsoft 365 or an SSL certificate provider.
- SPF, which lists the servers allowed to send your email. See SPF records.
- DMARC and DKIM, email security records. Add these only with the exact values your provider gives you.
Add a TXT record
- Log in to the Client Area.
- Go to Domains > My Domains and click the domain.
- In the menu on the left, click DNS Management.
- In the top row, enter the Hostname: @ for the domain itself, or the exact name you were given (for example _dmarc or a verification name). Don’t add your domain name to the end.
- Leave TTL at 3600 (one hour) unless you have a reason to change it.
- Choose TXT in the Type list.
- Enter the Address: the full text exactly as you were given it. Copy and paste it to avoid typos.
- Click Add Record. The record is added to the list as a pending change.
- Click Save Changes at the bottom. Nothing changes until you save.
How long does it take?
Most changes work within an hour. Some networks keep the old record until its TTL runs out, so allow up to 24–48 hours before assuming something is wrong.
If a service can't verify your domain, wait an hour and try again. Check that the hostname and text match exactly, with no extra spaces or quotes.
